Marina hasn't been up on the site for a while, so while I continue to prepare more Summer pics.....This session with Marina was one of the last assignments I did for Penthouse in my other Emeryville studio. This was also one of the first times I shot with natural light in addition to the standard "studio nudes" strobe setup. The photos with much brighter light and harder shadows were done against a bare wall near the windows of the studio, after we'd finished with the canvas session.Marina worked in one of the clubs with several of my other models, but I'd never taken much notice of her because her self-applied makeup was rather severe. Then by chance I happened to run into her in the daytime on the street, with a new haircut and just dressed in jeans and a t-shirt - and I was struck by how attractive she was without makeup - so I immediately asked her to model for me. (We did use makeup during the session, but tried to keep it toned down.)
I now find her look to be quite enticing - rather innocent and young, but also very sexy and alluring. She's also one of the few models who's smile seems to make the picture stronger.

I know it's still cold outside, but nevertheless I'm announcing the beginning of Summer.These are fresh scans from one of my first San Francisco shoots for Penthouse. Summer has since gone on to become a rather famous film star, although her body has gone through some changes since these shots were made.

The next gallery update will be coming soon - it's Bunny's older (only slightly) sister, Summer (who may be familiar to those of you who watch too many adult videos) - but in the meantime, I've been busy preparing for my first open studio exhibition and sale, this Sunday.From 12:00 to 6:00 on Sunday, Dec. 18th, I'm opening the studio to the general public and showing more work than I've ever presented in one place before. We have a couple special print sales running now:First, my annual Holiday Sale for fiber print collectors. This is basically a 2-for-1 sale on my hand-made darkroom prints ( a dying art, in my opinion).Second: as a few of you now know, I'm recovering from several months of radiation and chemotherapy treatments for throat cancer. I'm optimistic about the prognosis for recovery, but it's been a rough period.I've been fortunate to have a group of great friends around me, who have made this ordeal a bit easier to take - and now some of them are organizing an Open Studio Print Sale, here at my studio, to raise funds to offset some of my medical bills.

This session was shot in Portland, for the Penthouse "Erotic Dancer" series. Nikki came to the studio early, wearing no make-up, and appeared to be much too young; however, having encountered this problem before, she had brought with her not only her drivers license and birth certificate, but also a photograph of herself with her husband and two young children - proving that although she looked to be about 15, she was actually 22. I'm including some images in this group that I would not normally show - smiling and rather awkward expressions - because Nikki was so happy and fun to work with. She had trouble containing her giggles and even in the most erotic poses, seemed more playful than seductive - so I'm posting some images that convey her spirit, rather than choosing only the "perfect" pictures.
11-23-05
I first met Bonnie on the set of the Seductive
Art of Japanese Bondage. Midori brought her along to model for
one of the chapter openers, and I immediately knew I'd want to
shoot more of her than we'd planned to be doing that day.
Almost a year
later, the three of us got together again and did this
shoot in
a large open studio in San Francisco, with diffused window light
and some harsh skylight sun. I particularly like the bright sunlight,
since this is quite a departure from my well known soft box look.
(This is all shot with natural light and a much more candid perspective
than I use in the classic studio setting)
Midori helped
create a more rough and authentic Japanese bondage feel to the
images - as opposed to my usual stylized studio shots. That means
you'll see some real perspiration, some real stress in the model's
face, some blown out highlights, deep shadows and some unusual
angles.
A few of my favorite
images are: 4113 (great expression combined with a nice shadow
falling across her face), 4135 (showing some authentic tension
against the pierced nipples, although she didn't seem to mind),
4185 (back to my old square shape design), 4281 (again, more
like my usual studio detail, this time with simple window light),
4305 (the shoot was nearly over, she was hot and tired, and still
beautiful)
11-17-05 The final
group of images are being added to the Bunny gallery this morning. Most of these
have never been seen before, outside of Penthouse. Also, today,
some of my first collaborations with rope diva Midori. These
shots of Seven were done in my San
Francisco office, prior to moving into the Emeryville studio.
11-10-05 I'm still
in the process of hi-res scanning this classic Penthouse session
with Bunny
(I
don't choose the models' names, I just report them) but I've
become mesmerized by her great smile and lovely "derriere". As many of
you know , I normally don't like big smiles on the models, but
I made an exception in this case - she was just so sweet and
happy to be chosen for the Penthouse series that I let her go
on and on with that perfect ear-to-ear smile. And as I hope
you'll agree, there probably isn't a better butt on the whole
web. These images
all come from the b&w Hasselblad negs, which take some time
to scan and prepare, so your patience is appreciated. (Note to collectors:
just as with the Yelena photos, I'm posting some of these new
Bunny images in my eBay
auctions,
and they will also be available as hand-made fiber prints during
the upcoming Holiday Sale.)
11-03-05 More shots
of Yelena have been added to her
b&w gallery. Again, I'm
putting up several of these new images for sale on eBay - along with some classics
from my 1996 session with Natalie.
10-30-05 For those
of you who aren't so fond of the ropes and tattoos, etc, today
I'm posting some recent (2005) classic Studio Nudes. This session
with Yelena represents a return
to the simple straightforward b&w nude. The model is young
and unadulterated - completely natural. This session
was a refreshing change for me, and although I do like the rope
work too, I expect to be doing a lot more work like this when
the opportunity arises. (more of Yelena coming later this week.) Note to collectors:

10-27-05 A few months
back, I posted some private commission work I'd done in early
2005. These were two older models named Alex
and Lia. Today, I'm
posting some additional shots done this past August with Alex. She was so happy with
our first session that she came back for more.
10-26-05 I've just
received my copies of the new "Mammoth Book of Illustrated
Erotic Women". It's now available in the US, the UK, France
and Germany, under several various titles. Last year,
I posted the images
of mine that were requested for this volume, but I'm bringing them back up to the
top of the list today. This is one
of those huge collections (almost 500 pages) of work from 80
different photographers - about half in color and half in B&W

10-20-05 I've been
asked to contribute a few images to a new collection of nudes
being published in Barcelona next year. Most of them are already
posted here in the Archive, but since I was already preparing
the files for printing, I decided to offer eight of them on the
auction
page.
(see the first two rows of auction images) I've sold
a couple of these to my fiber print collectors, but they have
not been offered as FCA prints before - and especially not at
auction prices. As usual,

10-18-05 OK, we're
back. I've been out of the studio for a few days, so I'm posting
one of my final classic Studio Nudes sessions from Portland again,
plus a series of shots from guest, Abby
Winters. Zanna is one of those models who was reluctant
to pose, had never done it before, but the images turned out
even more appealing due to her slight awkwardness (imho) I'll
also try to post some larger size scans from this session later
this week. Abby Winters is an Australian photographer who photographs "real" girls (and girls & girls together). I don't
know about you, but for me this is a refreshing change from all
the cookie cutter Russian models we see way too much on the web.
10-04-05 Today I'm
returning one of my favorites - Cleo, in both b&w and
color. The color
shots
are a bit older - my first experiment with a Nikon D-1 - after
which time I gave up shooting color 35mm altogether.
10-03-05 For anyone
who attempted an online purchase of any of the sale prints (see below), we've discovered
that some of the pages were incorrectly coded, so that the transactions
would not complete. The problem
has been fixed, and all transactions should be going through
now. In consideration
of this glitch, we're extending the sale until 10-7-05.

9-6-05 Here is the
gallery of images from the shoot with "Friday" (members only).
These are conversions from the original digital files, so you'll
notice they have a different feel to them, compared to my Hasselblad
scans. I would characterize
this set as rather raw and earthy - both the images and the poses
- but I think when you see the documentary footage of this model,
you'll agree she couldn't be sweeter. (I hope to
have some video samples posted in a few weeks) In answer
to a couple inquiries, in our previous post (Friday
BTS),
that is Mike West, the rigger, pictured with the model, not me.
9-2-05 Film director
Tony Cane-Honeysett (well known in indy circles for his film "The Royal Academy") was here at the end of August
following me around for a couple weeks. He seems to think my
work with bondage photography deserves some attention, so he's
putting together a new film, called "Mondo Bondo".
(Look for it sometime next year, in big big theaters nationwide) We did a number
of shoots for Tony's film, including a great evening with rigger
Mike West and his favorite model, Friday. Today I'm posting some
Behind-the-Scenes shots of Mike, Friday
and Tony some of the film crew. I'll get some of my selected
images from the shoot up shortly.
8-26-05 Returning
from journeys to Seattle and Amsterdam, Seven is back now, and was
our featured model for weekend #2 of the summer workshops.
For those
of you who favor voluptuous, natural curves and that pale
European blondness, she is always a crowd pleaser...
On a technical
note, I've been using a nice b&w conversion technique, which
I mentioned a few months back. The b&w shots in this Seven
series
are color digital originals, transformed into duotones using
a process I learned from Greg Gorman (see his
site for details) I highly recommend it for anyone interested in rich
b&w finals from your digital files.

Today's update

7-12-05 I've just
noticed that quite a few of the Thaliand Nudes have been hidden
away in some of our earlier html layouts, and have been missed
by some of our new members. So today I'm posting a review of
most of the Thailand
sessions,
plus a gallery of the most recent Om
photos,
in their orignal format. (The Thailand
Review gallery is a combination of b&w print scans, newer film scans,
and conversions from color digital files - all compiled from
three recent trips to Bangkok.)
7-06-05 Just a note

7-1-05 You've seen
her tied up, packed in a box, suspended from the ceiling, and
perhaps engaged in several unnatural acts, but you probably haven't
seen Zille quite as unadorned and
naked as in these
brand new classic studio nudes - shot just last weekend. This first
group are the color files from the Nikon digital, which I'll
finish with tomorrow, and then I'll be adding the b&w Hasselblad
images later.
6-23-05 Finishing
the masked and bound Helena gallery today - a series
that has generated both praise and complaints. Some liked
her better in her classic poses from a few weeks back, but many
others are excited to see her in this wild and slightly perverse
scenario. I fall in
with the latter group, of course, since I was there and had a
great time shooting it. Feel free

6-17-05 The lovely
Helena
has
taken a turn toward the dark side for this
session
- a commission we recently completed, using ropes and masks. Scary, but
in a good way. Thanks to
Mike West for the excellent rigging and his cameo as the mysterious
Masked Man. I'll be adding
more to this gallery in a few days.

6-06-05 Tuesday makes another appearance today, appropriately
on a Tuesday. In many cases,
I debate whether to use the word "woman" or "girl" when discussing a model, but in this case (even though she is
older than 18) I feel comfortable applying the latter. This model
seemed, at times, to be just a girl who had grown up without
quite realizing what to do about her sexuality. She had that
innocence and awkwardness that we associate with "girlness",
and which can be very alluring, but she wasn't quite sure how
to pose like a woman. You'll see
evidence of both characters in this gallery - just click back
and forth between 44.03
and 44.05
to see what I mean. This will
also be a bit of an experiment, comparing my scanning work from
three years ago to my new Photoshop CS techniques. I'll be replacing
the images of Tuesday with new versions over the next few days
- see if you notice any improvement. Finally -
I've narrowed down the August workshop dates to the first two
weekends: Aug 6,7,13,14. Details coming soon.
6-05-05 The password

5-19-05 Today, a few
additions to the Private Commissions gallery. These shots of
Alex are also rgb conversions,
but done using a different technique. I'm much happier with these. I have some
b&w negs of both of these models, so it will be interesting
to compare the conversions to the film shots.
5-18-05 I've been
doing a few private commissions lately with women who are just
a bit older than my usual subjects, and several of the sessions
have turned out so nice that I asked these women if they'd consent
to my posting a few samples here on the site. I'll start
with Lia, and add some more in
the next few days. (By the way
I'm still working with both film and digital - these are the
digital conversions, which in my opinion are still not quite
on a par with "real" film.)
5-17-05 For those
of you interested in exhibition prints, I've just re-booted the
auction page today. I've put up
about a dozen of my most popular prints on ebay - see our Photography

page for details and links to the individual auctions. If you're
lucky you may pick up a print or two for nearly half price. I expect to
be adding a few more of these auctions in the coming days.

Usually I post
an entry here when I have a new gallery up in the Archive, or
some site news - but today I thought I'd post a couple links
to two sites that are... let's just say, rather different. As
you might know, perhaps 20% of the images in my Private Archive
deal with some sort of stylized bondage or fetish work. I like
to include some of my experiments with fetish and rope work,
but it's by no means a "fetish" site.
I also promote
other sites and other photographers here - usually people who
do great erotic work somewhat similar to my own, or at least
with some artistic flair. I don't link to a lot of hardcore sites
because people don't normally come here for that - however, once
in a while I find something so interesting in the hardcore /
fetish world that I think it deserves some attention.
I've known about
Hogtied.com for some time - they've
been around since about 1997. They're local, so I occasionally
run into the models and site operators. They're unbelievably
successful and famous for having some of the most intense bondage
scenes on the web, but what I didn't discover until recently
was that they've generated a whole new series of "offshoots" that I personally find even more intriguing. (These sites are
definitely not for everyone, so if you're put off by bondage
or fetish imagery, then don't click on the links. For the curious,
we have some sample thumbs of these sites now posted on our Top5 page, and our Top
Eroitc Sites
page.)
My two favorites
are Waterbondage, and Ultimate
Surrender.
The first is completely unique, at least in my surfing experience.
They have stills and video of some of the most unusual rope/water
/submersion scenes - situations so complicated and diabolical
that one almost forgets that they're also intensely erotic. The
positions of the models and the underwater lighting are sometimes
quite beautiful - definitely worth a visit if you're even slightly
attracted
to the concept.
Second, I"m
not a great fan of wrestling in general, and I've always considered
female mud-wrestling to be corny,at best - but when I saw some
of the stuff at UltimateSurrender.com, I knew this was something
completely different. This is real combat, and they get really
naked. As I said, it's for those with a particular taste in sexual
imagery, but even I (small town boy from Indiana) can appreciate
the erotic charge you can get from watching two naked
women rolling around on the mat. Check it out if it sounds like your
cup of tea.
5-10-05 I've put up
the rest of the Savanah-Midori shots - both the color
finals and the BTS snaps (behind-the-scenes). In the color images
you'll be able to see the perspiration on the model after a few
minutes in Midori's bindings. The rope work
is authentic and quite restrictive, and Midori is one of the
best, so Savanah was very ready to be released after about 10
minutes of shooting. Fortunately we had the shots planned in
advance.
5-09-05 Today we're
putting up a collection of images drawn from several sessions
with Savanah. These include a couple
studio sessions and a couple rope bondage shoots with the infamous
Fetish Diva, Midori. I also just noticed a group of unseen behind-the-scenes
shots, and color images, which I'll get up later in the week. In other news,
I'm looking for a few good interns to help out at the studio
- if you have some free time, some experience with computers,
and the ability to concentrate when surrounded by images of nude
bodies, click

5-02-05 I think I'm
beginning to see a pattern here... I just noticed the thumbnails
for the past 5 or 6 updates seem to have a rather obvious common
theme. Not that there's anything wrong with that. So unless
there are any objections, here are a group of color
shots of Anne and a close friend.
As I recall, we started out with a few standard portraits, which
quickly degenerated into repeated nipple biting. There's a sequel
to this series, too - perhaps later in the week... See if you

"Voluptuous" is the keyword today - this session with Persis was shot on the same
day as the recent images of Yelena. As you'll
see (if you've a Private Archive member) the camera seems mesmerized
by her quite prominent breasts... or, perhaps, maybe it was...
the photographer who was mesmerized. By the way,
several of the sessions posted in the past few weeks (Persis, Yelena, Helena) have been the results
of Private Workshops. I've begun doing one-on-one workshops with
individual photographers, which include a private tutorial, use
of my set and studio, and side by side shooting of your chosen

4-19-05 The new Private
Archive Monthly Review is up - with full size images from some recent
Archive galleries, plus a couple "coming soon" previews. Also, I have
another 10 copies of 20th Century Studio Nudes on hand. If you're interested,

4-18-05 I've had several
great shoots in recent weeks, which we'll be getting online soon.
In the meantime, I've had a request for this session of Courtney, which was rotated out
a few months ago. This is a
private commission that resulted in some very nice shots, and
fortunately the clients were happy to allow the work to be made
public.
4-12-05 OK, so today
I'm putting up the session from the Thailand Nudes I mentioned
last week (although I notice from all the emails that Yelena was a popular diversion). Om was one of the first subjects I photographed
in Bangkok in 2001, and I was fortunately able to find her again
for this
series
on my return visit. She seems to have either an innocent or a
disdainful air about her, and since her English and my Thai were
equally difficient, it was impossible to figure out what she
was really thinking. (This is a
reworking of some of my first digital imagery. The original posting
of this selection was in color.)
4-6-05 I was planning
to post some nice b&w scans from the Thailand Nudes series
today, but I got pre-occupied reviewing yesterday's shoot with Yelena. It's been
a while since I've photographed a model this young (she can vote,
but she can't drink) and there's just something about her - the
clear luminous skin, the long limbs (she's about as tall as I
am), the effortless innocent gaze at the camera, the minimal
make-up ... I could go on, but I'm beginning to sound like David
Hamilton. Anyway, I'm
sure you'll enjoy this
selection from the Nikon D-70, and I should have some equally nice black & white Hasselblad negs of her in the near future. For those

Another of the "private commissions" from the Playboy sessions last
month - Emily is a former elementary school teacher who always
wanted to be photographed like this. She started out a bit shy,
but a couple hours later we were helping her schedule an even
more explicit session.

I don't suppose
I'll get much sympathy for this, but I just have too many women
coming in to the studio these days, asking to be photographed
naked. I can't keep up!
I just completed a really nice series of a new model, Dustin,
all wrapped up by rigger Mike West. I'll get at least a couple
of those up today or tomorrow.
Also, for those of you who ordered collector's prints during
the Holiday Sale and have not yet recieved them, please rest
assured I have not forgotten about you. The sale this year was
more of a success than I'd anticipated, and with all these naked
bodies in the studio, it's been hard to stay in the darkroom.
In between the shooting sessions, I'm working on your orders
several days a week, so you'll eventually all get your prints.
One final note: as our little site has gotten more and more popular
in the past few months, it seems that a few of our members may
have accidentally divulged their passwords to friends or associates,
which is something that our system, believe it or not, is able
to track. I don't make a big fuss over this usually, but it is
beginning to cost a lot in excess bandwidth.
Please be aware that, starting this month, if the system logs
more than a few "subnet masks" (your unique computer
ID) on your account, your access is automatically suspended for
a day. If you're travelling, or using multiple machines, I'll
be happy to make an exception, but you may need to contact us
to reset your password.

I'm uploading
some of the color work from my sesssion with Alix, during the
Playboy taping.
I did a little Photoshop work on one particular shot (see thumb
at left). Let me know what you think.
I hope to have at least one more of these sessions up later this
week.

As promised,
I selected a few shots from each of the five Playboy
sessions
and posted them last night.
The five models
are Anne, Alix, Emily, Tess and Helena. Each will eventually
have at least one gallery from these shoots posted. I'll be adding
some of the b&w shots from the Hasselblad as well.
The sample group
in the current
gallery
should give you a good idea of what to expect. At the request
of the Playboy producer, and several very willing models, we
included a bit of rope and suspension work.
These were rather
quick sessions, about 2 hrs each, but I expect to be seeing most
of these models in the studio again soon.

All about Me
: Running a little behind this week, but I do have a good excuse
- I've been followed around for the past few days by a crew from
Playboy
TV's Sexcetera
show.
We shot five
different sessions and did numerous interviews over the weekend,
and I finally have a chance to sit down now and update the site.

The Sexcetera
piece on me will run on the Payboy channel at some time down
the road a few months - I'll try to get a few clips to post here
when it's finished.

people are mentioned in a recent About.com article - Henry Holmes Smith,
and me! I suppose this is the kind of blurb every student dreams
of reading someday (from Peter Marshall):
"Henry Holmes Smith (1909-86) was a fine and innovative photographer,
although perhaps his mjaor legacy is as a teacher. Some of his
students have become well-known photographers, including Jerry
Uelsmann and Ralph Eugene Meatyard, (1925-1972.) You
can also see some of Uelsmann's pictures at the Andrew Smith
gallery. Another ex-student who praises Smith as opening
the world of photography for him is Craig Morey, now a
leading photographer of fine art and erotic nudes. "

I'm scanning
some of the b&w negs of Molly this week, but getting
them prepared will take some time, so I've invited one of our
first guest artists to make another appearance.
Mattathias presents some more impressive b&w
shots from his magical mountain cabin, somewhere in the Southeast
US. Surprisingly, these models and this photographer are all
"non-professionals", yet the photos show clear signs
of mastery of the classic nude. He has no web site, but welcomes
comments either by email or in our Forum.

Zille has returned, as promised. This time
we hung her from the rafters, and she actually seemed to enjoy
it.
Some very nice
rope suspension images here (he said, immodestly) - for which
much of the credit must go to herself, and the rope master,
Mike West. Now that we know how to do it, you may expect more
suspension tricks in the future.
Also, for the
camera enthusiasts among you - this is the first batch done primarily
with the Nikon D70. You may notice a few shots with the Olympus,
labelled "Zillecxxxx". That camera is now for sale...

By special request,
we're bringing back this series of Jade, from the WhiteHouse
sessions. You'll notice that I was particularly fond of a certain
view of this model - not that there's anythying wrong with that;
I only wish I'd had time to do both sides equally.

I'm posting a
series today which was done in one of my Studio Nudes workshops.
Nicolette is another of my lucky finds - a non-professional
model who just happens to look great and feel comfortable in
front of the camera.
I asked her to
come back for more, but she's moved on now to motherhood and
family life, so it may be some time before we see her again here...

I just attended
an interesting lecture by Greg Gorman, the famous photographer
of the famous. He showed some of his great b&w portraits
(see gormanphotography.com) and then illustrated
his technique for converting digital color shots into very nice
duotone b&w images.
Those of you
who've been with the site for a while know that this is an issue
I've been experimenting with as I move more and more into the
digital world. So it was fortuitous that I just happened to have
some brand new digital images of young Molly - an artists model from
out of town.
We shot a few
different things earlier this week, some of which I did with
the old Hassy , but right now I'll post a few of the better digital
color shots, and some b&w conversions (using the Gorman technique*).
Those are going up today, and when the Hasselblad negs are ready,
we'll compare them.

I've added the
remaining Helena files today, which completes
her gallery.
For those of
you compiling print orders, these will be the last uploads to
choose from, prior to Friday's Holiday Sale deadline, except
for, perhaps, a few more Justine pics (although if you see something
in the next week that you want to swap for, I can probably accomodate
you.)
